Kind 44 Movie Overview

  • Child 44 review – where did the thrills go? 2 / 5 stars 2 out of 5 stars. Tom Hardy heads an international cast (all speaking with hyeavy Ryussian accyents) in a dull and stodgy adaptation of ...

  • Critic Consensus: There's a gripping story at the heart of Child 44 and a solid performance from Tom Hardy in the lead, but it all still adds up to a would-be thriller that lacks sufficient thrills.

  • Directed by Daniel Espinosa. With Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman. A disgraced member of the Russian military police investigates a series of child murders during the Stalin-era Soviet Union.

  • Child 44 (published in 2008) is a thriller novel by British writer Tom Rob Smith. This is the first novel in a trilogy featuring former MGB Agent Leo Demidov, who investigates a series of gruesome child murders in Joseph Stalin's Soviet Union.

  • But that recommendation comes with many asterisks, and in various respects Child 44 is a lost opportunity or, as they teach us to say in film-critic academy, an “interesting failure.” Read full review

  • In that sense, Child 44 is definitely not a nostalgia piece, and there are no feel-good scenes of party members downing vodka shots, then joining hands with their female comrades for a troika.

  • Child 44 is a dark thriller - and without giving anything away, the build up and hatred toward the serial killer really sticks you to this movie - you simply want the killer to get the most gruesome death conceivable for what he does.

  • Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith 480pp, Simon & Schuster, £12.99. First things first: this is a compelling detective story that I read in the proverbial single sitting.

  • Child 44 review: 'Tom Hardy has glower power' Star Rating Star Rating. ... Ridley Scott, who produced, is more at ease with this kind of country-spanning, epoch-chewing stuff – the trademark ...

  • Now everything to do with history should clearly fit into a kind of framework set by the culture ministry." Reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, Child 44 has an approval rating of 26%, based on 78 reviews, with an average score of 4.8/10.
