I, Tonya Movie Overview

  • “I, Tonya,” a riff on the Tonya Harding saga starring Margot Robbie as the infamous figure skater the whole world decided it loved to hate, is a fresh, chancy, and wickedly enjoyable movie.

  • That’s because I, Tonya is, at its core, a very conventional biopic. It follows Tonya Harding from her difficult childhood to her difficult adulthood, both eras in her life which were marked by abhorrent abuse.

  • In the 1990s, the story of figure skater Tonya Harding dominated the early days of the 24-hour news cycle. It was the testing ground for where news was headed, away from reporting and into gossip. It would be repeated tenfold by the O.J. Simpson trial, which came after the Harding incident was dying ...

  • Margot Robbie is a revelation as Tonya, the tough working-class kid who was never going to be anybody's idea of a pretty ice princess. Her eyes narrowed, her jaw clenched, she's a won't-back-down survivor, a constant, walking I-dare-you.

  • Margot Robbie in I, Tonya (Photo: NEON) Liberal critics wouldn’t be so quick to snicker at the appalling I, Tonya, then. There’s this movie about an impoverished girl who gets beaten and otherwise abused by her mother, then beaten and otherwise abused by her husband. Naturally, it’s a comedy ...

  • Based on the unbelievable, but true events, I, TONYA is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history.

  • “I was loved for a moment,” Tonya Harding explains. “Then I was hated. Then I was a punch line.” She delivers this summary directly into the lens, and then turns it back: “It was like being abused by you.

  • The Tomatometer rating – based on the published opinions of hundreds of film and television critics – is a trusted measurement of movie and TV programming quality for millions of moviegoers.

  • ‘I, Tonya’ Review: Tonya Harding Biopic Is the Movie We Need Right Now Margot Robbie turns the disgraced Olympian into a force of nature – and someone much more complex than a tabloid caricature

  • Tonya Harding has heard it all. She’s been called all of these names and more. You may have used at least one of these while watching the 1994 Winter Olympics, which you may only remember now as Nancy Kerrigan vs. Tonya Harding.
