  • The opening is good (one man facing the possibility of being the last man on earth), but the essential dramatic qualifying dilemma (2 guys at the end of the world ... and only one woman - it's movie gold!) is inexplicably downplayed which very nearly guts the thing.

  • Apocalypse, Sort Of THE QUIET EARTH, directed by Geoff Murphy; screenplay by Bill Baer, Bruno Lawrence and Sam Pillsbury; camera, James Bartle; edited by Michael Horton; music by John Charles; produced by Don Reynolds and Mr. Pillsbury; a Cinepro/Pillsbury Films production; distributed by Skouras Pictures Inc.

  • Sure, "The Quiet Earth" isn't your classic sci-fi movie...and it definitely is NOT for all sci-fi fans, but if you're looking for something different without all of the overdone Hollywood flash, you may want to check it out.

Zack Hobson (the late Bruno Lawrence in a stunning performance)wakes up on July 2nd at 6:12 in the morning to a world radically changed.

  • The Quiet Earth isn't necessarily a top-tier effort even within the small sub-genre of post-apocalyptic drama, but the film's terrific atmosphere and efficient underdog mentality go a long way in my book.

  • The Quiet Earth is one of those movies best seen without too many spoilers, which makes us wonder if it was necessary for the theatrical trailer (included) to reveal so many of the show's surprises.
