Alice in Wonderland Movie Overview

Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. At her engagement party, she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage and falls down a hole in the garden after spotting an unusual rabbit. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called 'Underland,' she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and frumious bandersnatches. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason – to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the rightful queen to her throne.

  • Audience Reviews for Alice in Wonderland Not Burton's best. The visuals completely overwhelm the story and characters to the point that it is rather distracting.

  • Written by Linda Woolverton, based on the books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. Running time: 108 minutes. Rated PG (for fantasy action/violence involving scary images and situations, and a smoking caterpillar). As a young reader, I found Alice in Wonderland creepy and rather distasteful. Alice's adventures played like a series of encounters with characters whose purpose was to tease, puzzle and torment her.

  • Alice in Wonderland I n Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the heroine notices that there are only three guests at the Mad Hatter's famous tea party (with herself the fourth) but the table has many more pristine, unnecessary place-settings.

  • Alice in Wonderland sure is an eccentric, surreal cinematic experience, but it's also one that you'll never forget. The film has colorful characters and a good cast. Like I said, Alice in Wonderland is weird, but it is definitely an entertaining film, one that will definitely appeal to Disney enthusiasts.

  • Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is a sequel and not a retelling of the original children's novels by Lewis Carroll. In this film, Alice is now 19-years old, and soon after the death of her father, is proposed to be married away.

  • Summary: Alice returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter.

  • This Alice in Wonderland movie version came out in 1999, and stars a number of familiar actors. Whoopi Goldberg plays the Cheshire Cat, Miranda Richardson is The Queen of Hearts, Ben Kingsley fills the role of Major Caterpillar, Martin Short is the Mad Hatter, and Tina Majorino is Alice. Tina's Alice was a departure from the cartoon version of Alice.

  • Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND is a mixed bag for me. There is a lot to like about this film and a lot I found annoying and tedious. Visually stunning at times it certainly is.

  • Inviting and magical, Alice In Wonderland is an imaginative new twist on one of the most beloved stories of all time. Alice (Mia Wasikowska), now 19 years old, returns to the whimsical world she first entered as a child and embarks on a journey to discover her true destiny.

  • Review of this 1985 production of Alice in Wonderland... A fitting subtitle for this noteworthy installment of the "Alice" story might well be: "This is Alice in Wonderland... This is Alice in Wonderland on American TV".
