Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist Movie Overview

Haunted by terrible acts the Nazis forced him to participate in, the disenchanted Father Lankester Merrin focuses his energies on helping with an archaeological dig in the northern part of Kenya. There, the crew uncovers a church that predates Christian missions into the area, but the discovery also causes strange events to start occurring -- including physical changes to a young, disabled boy, whom Merrin grows to suspect has been possessed by a demon.

  • It's true "Dominion" is a better prequel than "The Beginning", but in the end, that's not really saying much in either case. April 29, 2009 | Full Review… Felix Vasquez Jr.

  • The average rating for this film led me to wonder just how terrible it might be. I've seen the other Exorcist films, and I'm aware of the stark differences in quality. Exorcist is a classic, Exorcist II is boring, Exorcist III is fun and different, and Exorcist: Beginning is a flop. Dominion is supposed to tell the same story as Beginning.

  • The original Exorcist(Friedkin) film spread a wave of demonic possessions movies that continues unbated today such as ¨The changeling¨, ¨Amytiville¨,¨Darkness¨ ; besides the sequels as ¨Exorcist II¨ (by John Boorman) , ¨Exorcist III¨ (by William Peter Blatty) and prequels ¨The beginning¨ and ¨Dominion¨ .

  • The other film was more complete, faster, but was a bit dumber and was a bit Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. and Exorcist: The Beginning are 2 different prequels to the Exorcist.

  • Paul Schrader's "Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist" does something risky and daring in this time of jaded horror movies: It takes evil seriously. There really are dark satanic forces in the Schrader version, which takes a priest forever scarred by the Holocaust and asks if he can ever again believe in the grace of God.

  • DOMINION: PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST enjoyed a very brief release earlier this year, and then was dumped into the home video market. The movie is very hard to place. The battle of good and evil is always at war throughout the whole movie.

  • The Tomatometer rating – based on the published opinions of hundreds of film and television critics – is a trusted measurement of movie and TV programming quality for millions of moviegoers.

  • Dominion: Prequel To The Exorcist is a slick and sophisticated supernatural suspense film that is well directed, well acted, and that throws in a few clever twists. The effects work left a little to be desired and it would have been nice to see Warner Brothers put a bit more effort into the special features but to their credit, the film looks pretty good and sounds even better.

  • Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist is a 2005 American supernatural horror film directed by Paul Schrader. It is an alternative and original prequel to The Exorcist (1973) and the fifth installment in The Exorcist series .

  • Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist has its moments but isn’t very good. When compared to Exorcist: The Beginning , I think Dominion is a touch better. The movie is more coherent in plot and acting, but still is far from being a good film.
