  • The Jungle Book is a boring, mechanical, reimagining of a Disney Classic I never found too enticing to begin with. Despite a commendable effort by Sethi the film just lacks the authentic charm and warmth that it chooses to emulate.

  • The Jungle Book is Mowgli's coming-of-age story, and Sethi earns his character's evolution as he faces several humbling experiences and learns what his wolf pack's mantra (or as Baloo would say, propaganda) really means.

  • Kipling's tales are a stronger influence, down to the scenes where the wolves, Mowgli and other creatures recite a stripped-down version of Kipling's poem "The Law of The Jungle" ("...For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf/and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack").

  • Nothing in the movie itself, but Disney has all sorts of Jungle Book merchandise, games, apparel, toys, and more available. Drinking, Drugs & Smoking Baloo is fixated on honey.

  • Hyperreal digital animation meets old-fashioned storytelling in this faithful remake, which loses the songs but brings new, ingenious twists on the original

  • Like Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, Jon Favreau’s “live action” Jungle Book reboot owes as much (if not more) to Disney’s classic cartoon as it does to the tale’s literary source.
