  • Gangs of New York is a stunning Martin Scorsese epic. This a near perfect film that boasts a powerful cast of actors. Daniel Day-Lewis delivers the strongest of the film. Scorsese crafts another solid film, and this is a near flawless film that has a good blend of drama and action.

  • Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York" rips up the postcards of American history and reassembles them into a violent, blood-soaked story of our bare-knuckled past. The New York it portrays in the years between the 1840s and the Civil War is, as a character observes, "the forge of hell," in which groups clear space by killing their rivals.

  • GANGS OF NEW YORK,'' Martin Scorsese's brutal, flawed and indelible epic of 19th-century urban criminality, begins in a mud-walled, torchlighted cavern, where a group of warriors prepare for battle, arming themselves with clubs and blades and armoring themselves in motley leather and cloth.

  • 'Gangs of New York' is the story of Irish immigrants fighting with the New York's 'natives' back in 1860. It is extremely gruesome and violent throughout the movie, (braveheart x5). Although well-paced, it may feel a bit slow at some times (its runtime is around two hours, forty minutes).

  • Movie Gangs Of New York As the American Civil War rages, rival gangs battle for New York's Lower East Side. On one side are the Nativists, led by the vicious Bill 'The Butcher' Cutting (Lewis).

  • Martin Scorsese is a director of astonishing power and Gangs of New York is a movie of astonishing imagination, ambition, and scope. The first fifteen minutes are as dazzling as any images ever put on screen.

  • Gangs of New York is a good, but not great, movie. Each of the character roles was pretty well written and the acting was great. As we know a lot about the actual history of New York including the Irish gangs and Tammany hall "BOSS Tweed" this did not portray the history of the gangs or the extreme politics of the time.
