  • “Ouija; Origin of Evil” takes place in 1967 and tells the backstory of the character played by Lin Shaye in the first film. Played here by Annalise Basso, Lina Zander is the eldest daughter of Alice (Elizabeth Reaser), a fake fortune teller whose house is rigged with customer-fooling trickery.

  • Audience Reviews for Ouija: Origin of Evil Full of chills, Ouija: Origin of Evil is a frightful and disturbing horror film. The story follows a single mother in the late '60s who runs a séance business with the help of her two daughters, and when she incorporates a Ouiji board into her act her youngest daughter begins communing with the spirit world.

  • 2014's Ouija set the bar so low its bigger budget sequel couldn't help but surpass it. It's disappointing, however, that Origin of Evil still fails to deliver despite having so many truly excellent elements.

  • Unlike Lights Out (that had a few elements of originality)'Ouija: Origin of Evil' follows a Mother who is running a scam fortune telling business and her two daughters who lost their dad recently. The reason I bothered to mention their dad died recently is because they mention his departure a lot, in every scene in fact.

  • Perhaps you weren’t impressed with “Ouija,” the 2014 horror movie inspired by the Hasbro game. Critics certainly weren’t. But its new prequel, “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” is deliciously creepy, thanks largely to a terrific performance by the youngest of its stars.

  • Ouija: Origin of Evil is a swingin' sixties prequel to the 2014 horror movie and sleeper hit Ouija. Its predecessor has a mere 6% on rotten tomatoes, but had tremendous financial success. The budget was an estimated $5 million, and by December, 2014, the film had grossed almost $51 million.

  • This prequel to the supernatural vehicle for a board game is impressively tense – for the first hour at least

  • Ouija: Origin of Evil does rely on a few too many digitally created white eyes and stretched-open mouths. That, plus the troubling idea of a 9-year-old girl being possessed, in addition to the downbeat, death-heavy ending, makes the movie recommendable only to hardened horror fans.

  • The first Ouija film scored at the box office, but few loved it. Ouija 2? A big improvement...

  • Ouija: Origin of Evil is a 2016 American supernatural horror film directed and edited by Mike Flanagan and written by Flanagan and Jeff Howard. The film is a prequel to the 2014 film Ouija and stars Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, Lulu Wilson, Parker Mack, and Henry Thomas.
