Hornblower: Mutiny Movie Overview

The Hornblower series is based on C.S. Forester's classic maritime adventures - the story of one young man's struggle to become a leader of men. Set against the back drop of the 18th century Anglo-French wars, the bloodiest time in British naval history. Hornblower and his comrades come under the command of a revered but obviously mentally unstable captain and eventually must mutiny.

  • Together, they tell the story of a mutiny that Hornblower helped to instigate. The story begins with, and has a number of flashbacks of, Hornblower and the other ship's officers (most of whom are his sidekicks) being court martialed after the mutiny. The penalty is death.

  • Hornblower: Mutiny Review 19 May 2013 By now, you should know that my Hornblower reviews receive very high ratings and are amongst my very favourite period drama films to watch and review.

  • A&E's Hornblower movie series is back with two new installments, and settling in with them is almost as good as lying out in the backyard in the warm sun with a book that sweeps you up in rousing escapades and exotic locales. And these new films offer the darker thrills of a Stevenson novel. Grimmer than the first series of films, which began with The Duel and ended with a 1999 Emmy for Best ...
