  • Critic Reviews for Isle of Dogs All Critics (270) | Top Critics (40) | Fresh (242) | Rotten (28) Anderson's projects have always had a meticulous quality to them, but "Isle of Dogs" is exacting to the point of alienation. Someone needs a leash.

  • The dogs are very furry. The look of the animal “actors” in “Isle of Dogs” is the film’s best feature. At times, it's hard to resist the urge to muss the imperfect fur that has been painstakingly rendered by director Wes Anderson’s animators. Especially if you’re a dog lover.

  • Summary: Isle of Dogs tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots.

  • Isle of Dogs is not about pulse-pounding suspense. It’s about lovable characters on a dangerous quest, scrambling from one unpredictable scenario to another, as they desperately try care for one another in a world run by corrupt jerks who are trying to tear them apart.

  • In ISLE OF DOGS, canine flu has ravaged a futuristic Japan, and the tyrannical mayor Kobayashi (voiced by Kunichi Nomura) decides to exile all dogs to Trash Island, starting with his own son Atari's faithful pooch, Spots (Liev Schreiber).

  • “Isle of Dogs” takes off as Atari searches for Spots, a heroic quest that leads him to a canine penal colony, a wasteland where mysteriously sick dogs fight over morsels gleaned from rancid, maggoty garbage.
