  • Audience Reviews for The Nightcomers. This is a semi-formed notion of a movie, a mess that limps from idea to idea without ever letting the audience in on any of them. Scenes of sado-masochistic perversion are spliced periodically throughout the course of a hideously written mystery story, none of it clear enough to add up to anything.

  • The Nightcomers is an odd, depressingly dull film from the director of many bad movies Michael Winner. What distinguishes it from most other bad Michael Winner films is that it stars the great Marlon Brando, in one of the most curious roles of his career.

  • Penny Dreadful: “The Nightcomers” Review. Share. My little scorpion ... Sure, there was a sort of ret-con vibe to "The Nightcomers," as it was the show basically saying "Oh, ...

  • 5 August 2006 | by victorsargeant – See all my reviews The Innocents implies, but Nightcomers delivers the rare emotional flesh of the under belly of Henry James story. It is appropriate to the tale for the audience to experience the sexual paradox of SM, to understand the true power of Quant over the children.

  • review by simon ball In a nutshell Michael Winner’s The Nightcomers is a prequel to Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw (1898) memorably filmed in 1961 by Jack Clayton as The Innocents with Deborah Kerr as Miss Giddings and featuring amazingly atmospheric monochrome cinematography of Freddie Francis.

  • The Nightcomers. If you’ve never seen Jack Clayton’s film version of the James story, The Innocents or are just a fan of Brando, The Nightcomers will be mildly entertaining. The Nightcomers. “The Turn of the Screw” must be second only to the name Honore de Balzac in the sophomoric literary dirty joke department.

  • Lionsgate presents The Nightcomers in a very good enhanced transfer with fine color. Jerry Fielding's excellent music score is a definite plus as well. The big extra is a commentary by Michael Winner, who uses his track to tell ninety minutes' worth of tales about Marlon Brando.

  • Review Summary: A roaring debut and a gem of the NWOBHM era from a band whose fortunes would soon change considerably. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal produced a swath of bands, big and small, which would really solidify the classic, pre-glam, pre-thrash heavy metal sound.

  • “The Nightcomers” is almost the Penny Dreadful version of Waiting for Godot. Two actors playing off each other, but not against each other like Lawrence Olivier and Michael Caine in the cat ...

  • In “The Nightcomers,” we meet the Cut-wife, see Van pull a tarot card for the first time, and witness the power Mrs. Poole has over her men. Cattle was blighted, rabbits skinned, herbs identified, and we were treated to a heaping helping of Patti Lupone.
