True Grit Movie Overview

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. Marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and adventure on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.

  • Critics Consensus: Girded by strong performances from Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, and lifted by some of the Coens' most finely tuned, unaffected work, True Grit is a ...

  • In the Coen Brothers' “True Grit,” Jeff Bridges is not playing the John Wayne role. He's playing the Jeff Bridges role — or, more properly, the role created in the enduring novel by Charles Portis, much of whose original dialogue can be heard in this film. Bridges doesn't have the archetypal stature of the Duke. Few ever have. But he has here, I believe, an equal screen presence.

  • This True Grit is a very impressive piece of work, beautifully photographed by Roger Deakins, and if you had never seen the original, it might be getting even higher praise.

  • True Grit is a incredibly well-written story, nice cinematography and hardy villains (Robert Duvall & Dennis Hopper) which makes for a well-spent two hours and eight minutes. And if you listen to the Director's Commentary towards the end of the film, despite Gary Will's biography, which is incorrect, John Wayne DOES jump over the fence.

  • True Grit is listed in the Ultraviolet database, so typically a Blu-ray of it that includes a digital version would mean you'll get a UV code. Not so with this version. If you opt to purchase it and want to add it to your UV library, plan to pay another $2 for disk to digital conversion on Vudu.

  • What is True Grit Test Booster? First off, True Grit Test Booster is an over-the-counter dietary supplement. The ingredients include zinc, fenugreek seed, broccoli, ashwagandha, shilajit extract, boron citrate, safed musli, yacon root and bladderwrack.
