  • Young Frankenstein is my second favorite Mel Brooks movie behind only Blazing Saddles. The film is a great spoof of Frankenstein and is ridiculously hilarious in ways that only a Mel Brooks movie ...

  • It is, and Mel Brooks is home with "Young Frankenstein," his most disciplined and visually inventive film (it also happens to be very funny). Victor is a professor in a New York medical school, trying to live down the family name and giving hilarious demonstrations of the difference between voluntary and involuntary reflexes.

  • Garrick theatre, London The horror-movie spoof is gleefully reanimated for the stage with even more jokes, superb set-pieces and barnstorming parody songs that stick a pitchfork into good taste

  • Young Frankenstein is a great comedy, a movie that understands what it is doing most of the time and, although childish at times, I think fans of the original Frankenstein films and horror classics in general will enjoy this one.

  • Perhaps "Young Frankenstein" is not definitive Mel Brooks, although he directed it. Gene Wilder, who not only stars but co-wrote it with Mel, was the inspiration to make this movie. And it's his influence, I think, that brings the best out in Mel.

  • Parents need to know that Young Frankenstein is a 1974 Mel Brooks movie that parodies the timeless monster story. Like all of Mel Brooks' movies, there is plenty of sexual innuendo here -- references to "a roll in the hay," "knockers," and the use of a German word that clearly means "penis."

  • The film of “Young Frankenstein,” which Pauline Kael called Mr. Brooks’s “most sustained piece of moviemaking,” was a different kettle of celluloid, a genre pastiche of Depression-era ...

  • On December 15, 1974, Gene Wilder's Young Frankenstein, now recognized as an essential part of the Mel Brooks canon, first hit theaters. The Hollywood Reporter's original review is below: Mel ...

  • West End Review: ‘Young Frankenstein,’ The Musical Mel Brooks brings his classic caper back to life, but the vaudeville musical’s stitches are all too visible. By Matt Trueman.

  • Young Frankenstein was released when I was 14 years old, and I have probably seen it 30 times over the years. Since I am so familiar with every scene and line, it was great fun to read about how it was all conceived.
